Trail Ridge Ancient
Nature Photographers Network Editor's Pick
This old tree sits atop Trail Ridge in Rocky Mountain National Park. On this particular June evening an afternoon thunderstorm had just broken up. The wind was blowing at 20 - 30 mph and gusting even higher. Note the small tree on the right of the image bending to the gale. While the light is fairly bright the entire area was within 15 minutes of being immersed in the shadow of a large peak to the west. I've revisited this old friend every time I've traveled to the park but this first image remains my favorite. For a spiritual take go here.
