Nature Photographers Network Editor's Pick
This was my first Flora award winner. The week before I had entered a shot of an Indian Paintbrush that I was sure would be recognized. I was pretty disappointed when that image fell short but the very next week this shot came through for me. With the passage of time I think I agree with the judges. I find the light and colors to be much more interesting here. This was also a bigger challenge to shoot since Prickly Poppies grow on long spindly stems and move a lot even with a tiny breeze. I shot this on film so there were a lot of slides in the trash. I'm glad they held still for this rendition.
