Nature Photographers Network Editor's Pick
I never pass up the opportunity to visit this downed log when I make it to Rocky Mountain National Park. At dawn in June the first rays of the sun peek over a saddle in a ridge to the northeast and light up the wood with wonderful warm light. At this time of year the face of Long's Peak is also lit up nicely for a nice background element. Even though RMNP is a busy park, there is very little competition for viewing spots at 5:30 in the morning, except for the wrens, hummingbirds, and chipmunks.
